WeChat mini-program, is an ever-growing part of the WeChat Ecosystem and is still growing rapidly in the China market. On the other hand, H5 pages are very similar to WeChat mini-program and are very common in our daily life. However, there is not much difference either in development cost or production time from WeChat mini program.

The Differences between WeChat Official Account – Subscription Account vs Service Account

1. User experience:

Although mini-program classifies as a light application, there’s little difference in the user experience of native ads. User original data and records are automatically saved and will not get lost by the operational interruption.

On the other hand, H5 requires reloading every time we open a page, which means the H5 page has poorer user experience when it comes to the fact that we have to restart page again when there is an operational interruption.

2. Traffic acquisition:

WeChat mini program has self-contained traffic with up to 60 traffic entries. From Wechat Search (Sou Yi Sou) to QR code scanning, to even historical records, it’s easy to find the entry. While the H5 page has no self-contained traffic and requires continuous promotion. There is no browse record also. In general, the H5 page is a bit trickier to acquire traffic.

Summary – The differences between WeChat mini program and WeChat H5 mainly focus on user experience and traffic acquisition. Mini program is more friendly for promotion in WeChat Eco System. H5 is not a bad choice if we just do a simple branding display. But of course, outside of WeChat Eco, H5 cannot be easily replaced by mini-programs.

Differences between WeChat Mini Program and WeChat Official Account

We talked about WeChat Mini program and official account before, but do you know how to differentiate them?

  • WeChat Subscription Accounts – serves as a social media platform for companies to accumulate information.
  • WeChat Service Accounts – more related to the service instead of news content, therefore WeChat Service Accounts mainly carried out subscriber’s participation and accumulation.
  • Mini Programs have a lot of traffic entrances and are convenient to use, which can be used for quickly getting traffic and conversion, and as a platform for later-stage engaged user re-conversion.

When the user of Subscription Accounts or the user brought by the subscriber needs to be converted, Mini Programs can be used as a platform for conversion. Mini Programs are primarily tied to the Service Accounts and can go through by WeChat Pay and contact each other.

Mini Programs cannot actively push the message to the subscribers, therefore the messages can be pushed through by service accounts and subscription accounts in the future for any event. Messages are combined with promotion service and information of the product, user can directly click on the article and enter Mini Programs to make the fast conversion. In conclusion, Mini-programs are more likely to convert customers, whereas official accounts build relationships, brand recognition, etc.
